My final cover & one double page spread: with recap of analysis..

The location was a brick wall, found near an old factory/yard. I specifically chose this location for the sign that reads 'please keep children under strict control'. For this shoot, and the general theme of Easter, the location being very worn down and the sign added a humorous irony to the image. It also added a essence of punk and rebellion which I wanted. This again contradicted to the usual 'Easter bunny' mood and excitement.

These two images were created in the studio with a plum/peach backdrop.
I made the layout while looking at figure 1,  an ID cover. This gave me the idea for the low opacity, white square in the left of the image.
Both of the images have the same layout, fonts, text sizes etc. I did this so i could compare the better image for the cover. I will do a general how i edited for both of the images then go into evaluation. Before choosing my final image.

I experimented with the normal white background, which made me feel my images were boring.
I then saw the pink/plum backdrop, thinking this was more easter like, i chose this.
However, the camera and lighting made it darker, i will need to edit this on photoshop.

(More props) Easter Shoot:- Double page spread layouts:

Once I had edited all my images, it was time to create my double spread. I had difficulty making these fit with the other punk cover, however eventually it began to fit in more. 

Layout one: 

This layout is very cute and stereotypical of an Easter spread. It seems very different and wouldn't fit well with my 'punk bunny' spread.
This layout involves two different images, one being a model holding the basket over his face, and the other being a set up of props. There is space in the layout for some writing and article, however I feel like its too simple. I really like the punk bunny spread, so wont be getting rid of it. Therefore this page will need further work.


Layout two: 

This image shows another layout

for a double screengrab. 

It shows the use of two images, which i dont think is effective and professional as having one image.  I  also think that the  images dont match with the punk theme. If I did  have two images that were linked, I would consider using two images on a page. I think the font is nice and similar to the other spread. 

i do like the way one image takes up half of the page. 

 

Layout three: 

Again here , the layout looks very childish and  unprofessional.  Again, the font works well with the other double page spread. This is as its cartoon like and fits in with the culture of the mag. This  does look like a page spread  but i think it needs development. 

Layout four:

This development  shows a yellow font.  I chose this to match the chicks and  the general theme of easter. However,  its too distracting and doesn't contrast with the white enough.  This layout isn't something I really wanted as it looks too busy and  not as 'punk' like. I want my pages to show attitude where this shows cute and fluffy. 

 Point: 

This  screengrab shows an accident which led me to produce the screenshot below. I  went to clone the grass, so the whole page was grass, however this happened. This then led me to try having the same image twice.  

Layout five:

This image shows the same image  duplicated with yellow  font. The middle of the page looks  weird and needs to be flipped. Also the font doesn't really work in the current position. 

Layout six:

This image shows the one of the images flipped, so the middle is more smooth and effective. However, i still think this layout is too childlike and unprofessional  It still needs work. 

Layout seven: 

This image shows development of the double page spread. It shows the image above duplicated and flipped 4 times. This looks more  how I wanted 'punk' like and shows a uniqueness . The next issue is the font, which i have worked on below. 

Layout eight: 

This image shows lines over the image. I do like the effect , however i think they're should be less as it distracts the viewer too much . I also need to think about font size as well. I should make the lines more spaced and bigger. This is so i can fit in some text with the page. 

Layout nine: 

This image  shows some repeated text on the lines. It shows the need for less lines and bigger lines. Also the background is very bright, which may need editing. 

Layout ten: 

This image shows the version with less, bigger lines. I made a layer, coloured white, and placed it over the other layers, text , lines and the image.

I then changed the opacity of the layer, this gave the page a whitewashed effect, which made the colours less distracting. 

The less lines allows the reader to realise its a male model and that the image has been duplicated. I do like this layout as it fits in well with my other spread and has the same mood and tone. 

FINAL PIECE: 

I feel like my second double page spread is very effective. It works well with my first spread and to me, it looks like an advertisement. The repetition of the image and the text makes the simple message, Easter fashion, simple to understand. The lines cover the models face, which masks his identity.

The location was a very normal, rural grass field. This gives the spring walk feel to the image. It also doesn't distract the viewer from the main theme and model. 

(More props) Easter Shoot:- Double page spread edits:

This shoot expressed a different side to Easter, it was very cute and happy. This was different from punk and made it difficult to make the layout work with the previous page.
The location for this image is rural, which I have chosen because it matches with the spring and this is when Easter happens. Also, I thought a city location would of distracted the viewer from the main focus.

 I planned to use this image for a extra on my double page spread. I thought about using it to fill up a quarter, while the other half was filled by a portrait/full body shot and the other quarter being another prop. 

The location for this was a stone base found near the city centre, hence the building behind. I chose this location as it was linked to spring and spring walking. It is also linked to Easter egg hunts and the image itself reminded me of walking up to a egg you have just found. 

There is a narrow depth of field, which makes the main focus the basket and props, however the viewer does notice its on a pedestal in an rural location.   

How I edited:

Before all of this, I adjusted the levels and increased the saturation. This is because I wanted the chicks fur/fluff to stand out from the basket and eggs.

This part of the edit was very tiny and really didn't need doing, however, I found this little blemish distracted me. This was found underneath the basket handle. This was fixed by using the content aware fill after selecting it.

It fixed most of it, then it was just a quick clone stamp to make it look more realistic. 

This screen grab shows me using high pass on the image. This was because I wanted the basket to look more detailed and the fur to be more defined.

Again, it was a simple edit.

Final image;

How I edited:

These two screengrabs shows that I added colour to the eggs. This is why I originally brought white.
This was done because I thought the white was very plain and the image could look more detailed with more colour.
I chose these colours as they reminded me of easter and spring time.
This was done by using different adjustment layers with a different hue.
I used the layer mask, inverting it then painting on the colour. I ended up with a variety of different colour masks and merging the 'visible layers'.

This image shows me using high pass on the image. I chose this again to add detail to the location, the grass and the eggs. They were polystyrene which had some details on, which i thought would make the eggs look more like Easter eggs. It also added detail to the chicks fur, which make the image quality better.

Punk Easter (double page spread) edits and final piece(s):

This page will show my favourite image from the shoot become a double page spread. The location was a brick wall, found near an old factory/yard. I specifically chose this location for the sign that reads 'please keep children under strict control'. For this shoot, and the general theme of Easter, the location being very worn down and the sign added a humorous irony to the image. It also added a essence of punk and rebellion which I wanted. This again contradicted to the usual 'Easter bunny' mood and excitement. 
The image shows a male model, in a typical biker/punk outfit, with the added accessory of the bunny ears. They are looking away from the camera which gives the model a sense of moody and 'i dont care' attitude.
The model is in the left hand side, which makes it easier to add text to the spread.  

How I edited this image: 

This screen grab shows the first step in my editing, adjusting the levels. I wanted the background to be very dark and mysterious, but wanted the face not to look washed and pale. 
I made two adjustment layers, each being levels.  One being very dark and one being lighter. I made the dark one how I wanted it, then using the layer mask, removed the face and hands. This then lightened them. I then made the other level layer, inverted the mask and painted on the head and arms. I didn't make it too different, however i wanted the skin tone to match the original image as much as possible. 

This screen grab shows the hue and saturation adjustment layer. 
I adjusted the saturation so the sign and the yellow/orange stripe on the jacket really 'popped' and was very vivid. The only issue with this was that the models skin tone and the pieces of rust and dirt (the orange specks) were very distorted and untrue to the real image. So using the layer mask, I removed the effect on the face, hands and some of  the specks. I used a small brush, one that was similar to the speck size. This made sure that the wall wasn't effected.  After this was  done, it was time to experiment with the layout of text and other edits.


Experimentation: 

This image shows colour splash on the sign. The idea behind this was to make the viewer notice the irony on the sign. However, it ended up making the sign the main focus, this also combined with it being in the middle of the image. This was distracting from the main point, which was the choice of location and the way the Easter bunny was portrayed. 

This image shows experimentation with the logo and text on the image. The first idea I came up with was 'let the punk bunny play!'. I used a very standard and gaming like font, which I thought would add to the different, unique and punk style to the image. However, I thought the font was too plain and the title was too clique. On the other hand, I liked the positioning but thought it could be improved by perhaps moving it and changing the font. This is what I experimented with next.

Here, the screen grab shows a changed font, which was found on 'dafont' after searching in punk.

I kept the white background to see if it would attract the viewers eye. I also kept the slogan, just for an experiment. I found out that the white didn't attract the reader and made the image look less professional and very rushed. The slogan added a childlike effect to my image, which I wanted to get away from. Also, the font didn't really work well with the image itself as it was very cartoony and comic like. The positioning also didn't work well, as the text seemed different from the image and it became hidden from the viewers first glance.

This screen grab shows a different font, text and positioning. I also changed the font colour to a dark grey, which had a lower opacity. This was to contrast with the black of the jacket. The font I used for this was also found on dafont and is bold and cartoon like. I used capital letters to also fit in with the punk theme. The positioning for the text does work, however the line of the arm gives me the idea to place the text near it. This would make the viewer follow the line of the arm and read the text. This was the next thing to experiment with. I also need to think about a slogan/another line of information to give context to the reader. The title 'PUNK BUNNY' is very simple but with the added visual of the image, the viewer understands that the page is about alternative Easter fashions, such as 'punk'. 

This screen grab shows the added slogan/ extra piece of information, with the same font as the title. However, the sizing is smaller and the colour is black, instead of grey. I also moved the title to the elbow length of the arm and this worked better than in the bottom right hand corner. This made the viewer follow the models arm, to the elbow and then get 'distracted' by the title. 

The slogan in this screen grab is black and doesn't match with the title, this will have to be changed. Also, I think that the slogan could be lifted up more and the title to be more in the middle of the image.

These two screen grabs both work well with each other so will explain them together. 

The two show the slogan being the same colour as the text. This works better as they both match and combine. The colours don't distract the viewer from the image and the main concept, which is what you need in a double page spread. However, in the first image, I think that there needs to be less space. I tried this in the bottom image, which worked better. This image seemed more professional and the viewer would read the title then carry on reading the slogan. The bottom image will be one of my final double page spreads.

How I edited: 

The first screengrab shows the level change in the image, this was done to make the whole image more vibrant. I wanted the bright white walls to contrast with the green moss.

I then applied a hue and saturation adjustment layer, shown in the second screengrab. 

This again was to make the wall contrast with the moss.

The third and fourth screengrabs show the difference between having the saturation and not. I did remove the model from this layer as his hair and skin tone changed too much for my liking. 

The last screengrab shows the use of high pass, I used a smaller number as I didnt want everything to be drastically changed. 

I used high pass to add emphasis and tone to the walls and the rubbish, this is as the location is one of the main parts of the image.

The location: 

I chose this location because it was very ruined and old. It looked abandoned and this matched the theme of punk easter. The amount of rubbish really added emphasis to the fact its not looked after, perhaps like the model.

A weakness to this location is that it doesn't really add context or effect to the image. It also doesn't look very fashionable. 

However, I do like the urban feel to the image.

How I edited: 

The first screengrab below shows the level change in the image. I simply wanted it to lift the image and lighten skin tone. 

The second is a change in hue and saturation, I wanted this to make the pink flowers to pop.

This was because i wanted the link of pink to easter. Also, I wanted to create some irony in a 'punk' in a typically girly space.

Next, the screengrab 3, shows high pass. After using this, the face looked very distorted.

So using the eraser, I removed it from the models face and neck, this is shown in SG4. 

The last thing I did was experiment with black and white, which really attracted me. It matched the work of 'Louis Vuitton' and 'Lukasz Pukowiec', which really gave a sense and mood of attitude.

The location:

The location for this images is rural and shows a pink flowered tree, in blossom. Its very stereotypical easter, but the model really stands out and looks different. This is what i liked in the image. 

The model is looking up at the tree, which makes the viewer interact with the location. 

A weakness of the location is that its very rural and girly, however this can be seen as a strength.

How I edited: 

These screengrabs show how I edited this image. I edited the levels (1), then added high pass (2) and (3). I changed the saturation so the yellow flowers were brighter and more vivid. This was to fit in with the theme of easter. I then experimented with black and white (5) and colour splash on (6) and (7). I preferred the black and white as it again matched the styles of 'Louis Vuitton' and 'Lukasz Pukowiec', which really gave a sense and mood of attitude. 

The location:

For this shoot, I have chosen the location with flowers and a lake. I chose this because it fit in with the stereotypical easter theme. However, this location doesn't work well with the image, i think this is because it doesn't add anything to the image. Compared to other locations, this is the weaker.
